EXHIBITION

The Tolbooth in Lanark has transformed itself into an arts and heritage hub. We were privileged to host the first exhibition visited by around 300 people, including the children involved in the designs.

We're delighted with the completed designs that give a bold and playful depiction of Robert Owen's principles of character, kindness, play, cooperation, curiosity, equity, the environment and happiness. Well done everyone!

WEEKLY SEMINARS

Parents, teachers and childcare workers are taking part in seminars to examine Robert Owen's principles in a modern context. Guest speakers include Sue Palmer, Gary Walsh and Catch the Light

NEW LANARK

BACK IN TIME

EXPERIENCE

Children from five schools and two nurseries across Lanark went on visits to discover what life and school was like over 200 years ago at the New Lanark World Heritage Site. This is where Robert Owen built the world's first ever nursery and developed many of his pioneering ideas on education, character and social reform.

CREATIVE CASTAWAY

SESSIONS

Children from primary 1, 2 & 3 have taken part in after school creative workshops. Based on a castaway story children use drama, percussion, nature craft and wild play. Inspired by Robert Owen's favourite book 'Robinson Crusoe' the children discover new talents to survive on their remote island and make their way safely back to Lanark.

STAINED GLASS WINDOWS

All five Lanark primary schools took part in workshops with local artist Fiona Foley. Over three days children learn about design and colour. Their imaginative ideas are incorporated into the eight panels of a bespoke window dedicated to the principles of Robert Owen. The full window now forms part of a large atrium area in the newly refurbished New Lanark Primary School. This is reminiscent of the large colourful friezes which adorned the walls of Owen's classroom. What an incredible new legacy!

FOREST SCHOOL TRAINING

Parents, teachers and earyly years workers from Lanark's schools and nurseries are being funded to take part in forest school training levels 1, 2 & 3. Once we have trained staff and volunteers in every learning centre, Lanark can declare itself as a Forest School town. We think Robert Owen would approve.
